How to spot AI-generated assets

AI-made listings aren't all bad, but low-effort volume makes good work hard to find. These checks take a minute per listing.

How to spot AI-generated (slop) assets

• Thumbnails with melted details, inconsistent lighting, garbled text or "too perfect" painterly looks that don't match the 3D shown elsewhere.
• Huge catalogs uploaded in a short time with templated titles and copy-paste descriptions.
• Vague technical specs ("high quality, game-ready") with no counts, maps or LOD info.
• Audio and 2D packs with dozens of near-identical variations.
• Check whether the listing declares AI use; Fab offers an AI filter, but users report mislabeled listings slip through.

AI tools aren't automatically bad. The problem is low-effort volume. When in doubt, look for a video of the asset running in engine.

What to check before you grab or buy

• License tier. Fab sells Personal and Professional licenses; confirm which one a free or discounted item grants before using it commercially.
• Engine version. Check the supported UE versions on the listing. Packs that stop at an old version may need fixes after migrating.
• Real screenshots vs. renders. Look for in-engine screenshots or a video, not only offline renders. Ask whether the scene in the shots is included.
• Technical details. Poly counts, texture resolution, LODs, Nanite support, collision and whether materials are instanced. Missing details is a yellow flag.
• Seller history. A seller with several coherent packs and a changelog is lower risk than a brand-new account with hundreds of near-identical listings.
